At Bay Property Management Group, our mission is to provide exceptional property management services while fostering an environment of growth and success for our team members. In this month’s Employee Spotlight, we’re thrilled to introduce Victor Brown, our Maintenance Supervisor in our Baltimore office. Victor brings deep operational expertise and strong leadership to our team, driving growth and ensuring the Baltimore office runs smoothly and efficiently.
What Inspired Victor to Pursue This Career?
Victor started out as an auto mechanic and found that he really enjoyed fixing things. However, he was looking for a change. When his daughter was 6 months old, he had an excellent job opportunity that he couldn’t pass up.
He admits typical jobs aren’t the most exciting to him, as he hates having to sit still. However, when it comes to property management in Baltimore, every day is a new set of challenges. There’s always something new to learn, which is perfect for a go-getter like him.
What drew Victor to Bay Property Management Group?
Victor joined the BMG team in April of 2019, drawn to a new chance to prove himself and learn a new portfolio. He really liked the culture of BMG and our use of technology, which was one of the main things that stood out to him.
His Professional Journey Before BMG
Victor has been in this industry for nearly 20 years, starting as a trainee in 2007. His knowledge from working with auto mechanics helped him understand electrical systems, get a general idea of how things should work, and how to fix them.
Along with that, he’s taken CFC classes to get certified to work on HVAC systems, along with numerous day classes on lead abatement, electrical work, plumbing, and more!
How His Role Has Changed at BMG
Victor originally joined BMG as an HVAC technician. Over time, he consistently demonstrated his technical expertise, strong work ethic, and leadership potential, which led to his promotion to Maintenance Supervisor.
A Typical Day at BMG for Victor
Each day is a bit different for Victor. He handles most service tickets, which means no two days are the same. His work spans across a wide range of trades, and he enjoys the variety that comes with each different challenge.
Part of his job includes ensuring there’s a stock of common repair items and that the team is supplied for upcoming visits. When he’s in between service tickets, he meets with contractors, checks on buildings, and handles any tenant concerns.
What’s Most Satisfying About the Job?
What gives Victor the most satisfaction or motivation to keep going, even on tough days, is when he can solve an issue for a resident. He says,
“When someone sees me, and they light up, saying ‘hey, Vic!’, and knowing that I’ve earned their trust and they have confidence in our team.”
He also enjoys meeting all the pets and knows most of them by name!
What Makes BMG’s Workplace Unique?
Victor likes how BMG uses technology to streamline day-to-day operations, making work more efficient and manageable.
“It’s a new environment from what I was used to, but the company and employees made it an easy transition.”
Beyond that, he values the positive atmosphere and chemistry between the corporate office, ownership, and team members, which helps create a collaborative and welcoming workplace.
Skills that Help Victor Succeed in Property Management
For Victor, being mechanically inclined is a huge help. However, remaining teachable and being eager and willing to find the right answer have always helped him in his career.
“You don’t always have to have the right answer; you just need to know where to find it.”
He also mentions that when working in other people’s homes, it’s important to always remain respectful and clean up after yourself. Practicing good customer service skills is just as important as making the necessary repair.
What Impact Does Victor Want to Make?
In the long term, Victor hopes to continue growing alongside BMG as we expand and welcome new buildings! He takes pride in sharing knowledge with team members who are eager to learn, just as others invested time in teaching him.
Getting to Know Victor Outside the Office
We love getting to know the people behind the work. So, we asked Victor a series of questions to learn more about his personal life.
Do you have a hidden talent or hobby you enjoy outside of work?
“I enjoy fishing in bass tournaments. I was in the 2024 BASS Nation Championship in Oklahoma, and I earned my way by fishing in a regional and taking 12th place on Lake Champlain in NY. It has been awesome to travel and fish against the best around and to be televised walking across the stage.”
Tell us something off your bucket list and what it means to you.
“The first thing that comes to mind is traveling to Miami and fishing for peacock bass. Their size and colors are amazing.”
If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would it be and why?
“I’ve always been a fan of stand-up comedy, and it would be awesome to have a conversation with George Carlin. His free-thinking attitude and pull-no-punches approach were always more than just jokes, and the things he said 30 years ago ring true today.”
If you could be known for one thing, what would you want it to be?
Victor values being a trustworthy individual–the guy you call when you need help or just to talk and know it won’t go anywhere else.
“As I’ve grown, I’ve gotten away from wanting to be well-known and just want to be a good person.”
